Who is a Physician Assistant?

A Physician Assistant also refered to as a PA practices medicine under the direction of a licensed physician.  As a member of healthcare teams, PA's :

  • diagnose and treat illnesses
  • perform physical examinations
  • provide preventive care
  • routine check ups
  • prescribe medications
  • health risk assesment
  • immunizations
  • screening tests
  • counsel patients and
  • perform minor procedures

A PA exercises considerable autonomy in diagnosing and treating patients, but the supervising physician determine the scope of a PA's practice. 


Who is a Family Nuse Practitioner?

A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) ia a nurse practitioner that specializes in continuing and comprehensive healthcare for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases and body systems. As a member of healthcare teams FNP's:

  • diagnose and treat illnesses
  • provide preventive care
  • routine check ups
  • health risk assessment
  • immunizations
  • screening tests
  • patient counseling
  • prescribe medications
  • manage chronic illnesses

FNP's provide quality care in collaboration with providers and the supervising physician and state law determine the scope of a FNP's practice.
